Competition is Human Nature

May 16, 2008 / by A_Cherry2

Why do people always try to be better than others?  Why do we thrive to be the best?  These are questions that I will probably never have the answer to.  I don’t know if anyone can give a logical answer besides that it is human nature.  All humans do this.  It is competition.  Life overall seems to be a huge competition.  This is why I feel that we will never get by the “Clash of Civilizations.”

We always are clashing with other races, religions, and many times with our allies.  Of course people are going to disagree on things, which sometimes will cause a problem, but why do we always have to compete with these people?  I am a white American man; does that mean that I should feel that I’m better than African American people, or Mexican Americans?  No, but yet we hear about stuff like this all the time.  People always talk about how one race is better than others.  Religion is another thing.  Myself, I’m not religious, but I still do notice that people who are Christian will say that it is more logical than being Jewish or something like that.  There is always a battle going on.  I can’t ever see this changing.  I truthfully don’t think that it can ever change.

Competition really is just human nature.  Sports are a big part of our culture.  What are sports?  They are competitions.  You play to win.  This is how people are raised.  No one raises their kids hoping that they will lose.  Yeah, it is okay to lose, but really everyone wants to win.  We have the Olympics in which all it is there for is to see who the best at each sport is.  As long as these things are still around then we will never see the end of the “Clash of Civilizations.”
